# Kinrooted

> Kinrooted (kinrooted.com) is a free family tree app that a whole family builds and runs together. Trees are private to the family unless they choose to share. It works in 38 languages and adds family chat, reunions, photos, stories and a storm "I'm safe" check-in to the tree.

Kinrooted was founded in 2026 by Chinonso "Larry" Okeke and is based in Spring, Texas (Greater Houston, ZIP 77388), serving families worldwide. Contact: kinrooted@gmail.com.

The Kinrooted Shop is where families will order merch for their own family events, such as matching family reunion T-shirts and keepsakes (opening soon).

## What it does
- One shared family tree: relatives add their own sides; every relationship is labelled (cousins, once removed, in-laws, step and half relatives, great-grandparents).
- Free: building the tree, connecting relatives, chat, reunions and family history cost nothing. No paywall on your own family.
- Private by default: immediate family sees the tree; living people are protected; children are hidden from anyone outside close family.
- Import and export: GEDCOM and GEDZIP from Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilySearch, Geni, RootsMagic and Gramps; download as GEDCOM any time (no lock-in).
- Family life: chat and group chats, notifications and browser alerts, a Kin Wall for news, birthdays and memories, reunions and events with RSVPs, family groups.
- Stories: photos and videos, life notes, places lived, favourite things, history on each profile.
- Languages: interface in 38 languages, names in their own script, tap-to-translate for posts and messages. Yorùbá and Igbo are written by human translators.
- Safety: an "I'm safe" check-in for hurricanes and emergencies.
- Clean data: duplicates are detected and merged with undo; search understands plain questions ("my cousins on my mum's side", "born before 1950") and never changes what you typed.
- Sign-in with a one-time email code; no password or credit card.
